As 2017 comes to an end, I am thankful for my health, family, friends and another year with my father, who suffered a heart attack in 2012. It is thanks to the work of the American Heart Association that we celebrate another holiday season together. With these reflections comes the reality of the impact that heart disease has in our communities. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in this country for both men and women. As it stands, 2,150 Americans will die each day from heart disease, stroke or cardiovascular disease.
The American Heart Association is the largest private funder of research in the United States investing more than 4.1 billion dollars towards research that has or will change our world. From correcting heart defects in newborns, finding drugs to lower cholesterol, changing the guidelines around high blood pressure and more.
I have made it my personal mission to help further the AHA mission to decrease heart disease by 20% by 2020 and it is my hope that you will join in and help.
